I’ve been working as a Hydraulic Technician for the past thirty-four years. My experience spans over a variety of areas, including everything from large industrial power units and circuits, right through to lifting cylinders and pumps.
As a Senior Hydraulic Technician at PERSAS, my role mostly involves taking damaged and worn pieces of lifting equipment and torque units and rebuilding them to the original equipment manufacturer standards. Testing and certification are also a big part of my everyday responsibilities.
I take a lot of pride in seeing my finished products leave the workshop. Once I’ve finished them, they look like a million dollars, and I know they operate to the manufacture’s specification. This gives me great job satisfaction, as the safety of our clients is of the utmost importance.
I have accomplished quite a bit during my career. To complete a job, I was once helicoptered out to a coal ship, in high seas, to troubleshoot a hydraulic circuit for the ship’s anchors – not the best way to overcome my fear of flying, but we got the job done!
Yet, my biggest accomplishment to date would have to be the lifelong friends I’ve made, both workmates and clients.
Outside of work, family and friends are the biggest part of my life. I get enjoyment in following my three sons in their chosen sports and interests. Having been able to play competitive sport in the same team with all three has been a big highlight.
I also love barbecuing, accompanied by a quiet drink and yarn with some close mates. But nothing beats coming home every day to my beautiful partner.
